Road work on State Road 56 at Tucker Run Bridge begins October 15.
(Switzerland County, Ind.) - The Indiana Department of Transportation will begin restricting traffic to a single lane next Monday, October 15 on State Road 56 at its bridge over Tucker Run Creek located six miles west of S.R. 129 in Craig Township. Temporary signals at either end of the bridge site will control one-direction-at-a-time traffic flow.
The lane width through the S.R. 56 construction zone is 10 feet.
INDOT’s contractor for this $3.7 million 2-bridge project will replace the north half (S.R. 56 westbound side) of the Tucker Run structure while motorists are routed to the south half.
Milestone is charged with constructing a 3-span concrete bulb-T bridge at Tucker Run measuring 200 feet in length with 33 feet of clear roadway side-to-side. The new bridge is tentatively scheduled to open to traffic in November, 2019.
A second S.R. 56 bridge located less than a mile west of the Tucker Run structure will be removed and replaced after the first of the year. The new S.R. 56 bridge at Green Valley Creek will be a single-span I-beam structure measuring 68 feet in length and 30 feet side-to-side.
Clearing is underway. Utility relocations will follow.
S.R. 56 will be realigned at the Green Valley bridge site—allowing continuous free-flow traffic until pavement tie-ins occur. At that time, a 14-day closure will be imposed.
S.R. 56’s traffic count is 2,257 vehicles per day.
