(Friendship, Ind.) - Construction to repair a crumbling State Road 62 near Friendship could begin soon.
The highway has been closed for over a year. Heavy rains washed out parts of SR 62 just east of Friendship in April 2011, forcing Friendship residents to take a long detour around the closure using Farmers Retreat Road.
During a meeting of many area county commissioners and with Indiana Department of Transportation engineers at State Rep. Randy Frye’s home Tuesday, Ripley County Commissioner Gary Stutler inquired about SR 62.
INDOT Seymour District Deputy Commissioner Kathy Eaton McKalip stated the project has successfully been bid and construction should begin soon.
The $1.6 million contract was awarded to HIS Constructors out of Indianapolis.
INDOT spokesperson Greg Prince said the repairs are scheduled to be completed with State Road 62 reopening November 9.
