(Aurora, Ind.) - – State Secretary of Education, Katie Jenner visited Manchester Elementary School on Tuesday to celebrate the recent success on the IREAD 3 Assessment.
Manchester Elementary received the highest pass percent rate of any elementary school in Dearborn County at 95.2 percent.
According to the Department of Education, IREAD-3 is the state’s required standardized test, first given in the 2011-12 school year. Each year the assessment is administered in the spring but students have the opportunity to retest in the summer.
The most recent results are reflective of the best spring and summer results for third graders and also encompass the second graders who have already passed the IREAD exam in the 2021- 22 school year.
“Through significant research, we know how important it is that children learn to read by third grade, and we take that mission very seriously in Indiana,” said Dr. Katie Jenner, Indiana Secretary of Education. “Literacy is vital to ensure Indiana’s students are prepared to explore and experience a variety of pathways, and that’s why we’re working to empower Indiana’s schools and educators with research-based, proven strategies to support our students as they learn to read.”
