The online retail giant announced in January a $1.5 billion investment to create the air hub at the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport. The project is expected to create more than 2,700 new jobs and have a large impact on the tri-state economy. Last week, the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority authorized up to $5.4 million in incentives from the Kentucky Business Investment program. The incentives relate to the $175 million first phase of the Amazon project. Amazon’s new hub will support its growing fleet of Prime Air cargo planes. Operations will include loading, unloading and sorting packages. CVG is leasing 900 acres to Amazon for 50 years. The airport is also investing $5 million in infrastructure to support the hub. Amazon Senior Vice President of Worldwide Operations Dave Clark said the company chose Boone County for its new hub location because of the area’s large and skilled workforce, centralized location, and excellent quality of life.
