Three Local Ind. State Police Employees Recognized

(Versailles, Ind.) - On Wednesday in Indianapolis, ISP employees throughout the state were recognized for their outstanding performance during 2013. Of those recognized  were three from the Versailles District. Receiving awards were Master Trooper Ben Bastin, Trooper Matthew Simmons, and Master Motor Carrier Inspector Kimberly Hill.  Master Trooper Bastin was recognized as the Versailles District Trooper of the Year. The district Trooper of the Year award is presented to the trooper at each district who has achieved outstanding enforcement efforts in the areas of traffic and criminal enforcement, case and crash investigation, public information programs and community service, and who has exemplified the professionalism and integrity of an Indiana State Trooper. M/Tpr. Bastin has been with the Indiana State Police since June, 1995 where he was assigned to the Versailles District. He worked at Versailles until 1999 when he transferred to Bloomington District. He remained at Bloomington until 2001 when he transferred back to Versailles. During his career at Versailles he has been assigned Ripley County and he currently resides in Versailles with his wife and two daughters. Trooper Matt Simmons was recognized for his outstanding performance in DUI enforcement having led the Versailles District in DUI arrests for 2013 with 54. Tpr. Simmons has been with the Indiana State Police since 2007 where he was assigned to Seymour District. At Seymour he was assigned patrol responsibilities in Bartholomew County. In 2010, after the merger of the Seymour and Versailles Districts, Tpr. Simmons remained assigned to Bartholomew County where he resides today with his wife and their three children. This is Tpr. Simmons’ fourth straight year he has led the Versailles District in DUI arrests. In addition, he led the Seymour District in 2009 in DUI arrests as well as being the Versailles District Trooper of the Year in 2010. Also recognized today was Master Motor Carrier Inspector, Kimberly Hill of the Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division. M/MCI Hill was the recipient of the R. Ralph Reed Motor Carrier Inspector of the Year for 2013. M/MCI Hill was appointed to the Indiana State Police in 1995 and assigned motor carrier duties in Versailles District. Throughout her carrier M/MCI Hill has continually sought ways to be more efficient in completing her job and promoting commercial vehicle safety on Indiana roadways. Her supervisors have described her as honest, trustworthy, and can always be counted on to complete her duties as described. M/MCI Hill resides in Decatur County.
