Verastau Historic Site In Aurora Opens For Tours This Week

Press release from Dearborn County Convention, Visitor & Tourism Bureau Veraestau Historic Site will open to the public beginning Thursday, August 3. Photo provided. (Aurora, Ind.) - Veraestau Historic Site, an early-19th-century country estate located outside the City of Aurora, Indiana, will open to the public beginning this week, the property’s representatives announced recently.  Beginning August 3, the site will be open for tours from 1-4 pm on Thursdays and Sundays. Known for its panoramic views of the Ohio River and the countryside beyond, Veraestau is a private estate managed by Indiana Landmarks and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  The elegant country property, which previously had been open by appointment or for group tours only, maintains features going back at least 200 years. Veraestau (a combination of the Latin words for spring, summer and fall) is a two-story Greek Revival-style structure that has been meticulously preserved.  In addition to regular tours, Veraestau hosts several activities and events occurring throughout the year, including seasonal teas and an annual Derby Day party.  The facility and surrounding grounds are also available to rent for weddings, parties and special events. Veraestau will remain open to the public from now through December 17, then will close for the winter before re-opening in the spring.  Tours of the site are free for members of Indiana Landmarks, $5 for non-members, or $4 per person for groups of 25 or more. For more information on Veraestau, contact Veraestau directly at 812-926-0983 or veraestau@indianalandmarks.org.  To learn more about things to see and do in Southeast Indiana this summer, log on to www.visitsoutheastindiana.com or follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/visitsoutheastindiana.
