INDIANAPOLIS – How about a trip down memory lane?

Last week, the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association released the boys and girls lists of 1,000-point career scorers.

The boys’ list contains 3,387 players with players listed as far back as Don Shelton, a 1919 Crawfordsville graduate.

The IBCA began compiling a boys list of 1,000-point scorers at the end of the 1979-80 season. The initial list included 357 players.

A statewide girls' 1,000-point scorers list was compiled earlier this year. The girls’ list contains 2,180 players with three 1976 graduates as the inaugural members.

The IBCA is releasing these lists so each may be used a resource by the Indiana High School Athletic Association, the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, the Indiana High School Basketball Historical Society, media members from across the state, all IHSAA-member schools and conference, county or other groups that may be interested in them.

Of the players that played at schools in the Eagle Country listening area, Ray Kuhlmeier is the top scorer on the boys’ side with 1,810 career points. Kuhlmeier graduated from Aurora High School in 1966.

The top girls’ scorer in the area is 2018 Rising Sun graduate Lucy Carrigan with 1,703 career points. That title could be in jeopardy as Josie Trabel has 1,353 career points entering her senior season at East Central.

The all-time leading scorers in Indiana boys and girls high school basketball history are Damon Bailey (Bedford North Lawrence, 1990, 3,134 points) and Jackie Young (Princeton, 2016, 3,268 points)

A list of local players to surpass 1,000-career points is listed below.
