IHSAA 4A Sectional 14 at Shelbyville – First Round
East Central 3, Shelbyville 2 – Jack Hutchins provided the walk-off hit to score Corey Hoog in the bottom of the 7th and give East Central the tournament-opening victory. Jake Jennings pitched 7 innings for EC. East Central (10-12) advances to play Columbus East (18-7) in the sectional semi-final round on Friday, May 25 at 6:00 p.m.
IHSAA 3A Sectional 29 at Madison – First Round
Lawrenceburg 11, South Dearborn 8 – The Tigers’ Eli Helton hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the 7th to get Lawrenceburg past their biggest rival and advance in the postseason. Helton went 2-for-3 with a homer, a double, 4 RBI and 3 runs scored. Austin Weimer added two hits and 3 RBI for LHS, while Payton Hartman went 3-for-5 with 2 RBI. Lawrenceburg (21-8) will play against Franklin County (14-5) in the sectional semi-finals.
IHSAA 2A Sectional 45 at Switzerland County – First Round
Switzerland County 4, Milan 3 – Switzerland County (10-10) will play against Austin (17-8) in the sectional semi-final round on Thursday, May 24 at 7:15 p.m.
IHSAA 1A Sectional 60 at Jac-Cen-Del – First Round
North Decatur 4, Rising Sun 3 – North Decatur pitchers limited Rising Sun to 5 hits in 8 innings. Rising Sun’s Bradon Bush pitched 3 innings with 8 Ks, while Brant Turner pitched 5 innings with 8 strikeouts. Turner also had a hit with 2 RBI. Rising Sun’s season ends with a 16-8 record.
Hauser 10, Oldenburg Academy 0 – Oldenburg’s season ends with a 5-17 record.
SOFTBALL
IHSAA 4A Sectional 14 at East Central – Semi-Finals
Bloomington County 3, East Central 2 – EC’s great season ends with a 20-6 record.
IHSAA 3A Sectional 29 at Franklin County – Semi-Finals
Franklin County 1, Batesville 0 – Batesville pitcher Abigail Westerfeld pitched well, going 7.0 innings with 9 Ks, 4 hits, a walk, and an earned run allowed. Franklin County (24-5) will play South Dearborn (18-8) in the sectional championship game on Friday, May 25 at 6:00 p.m.
South Dearborn 6, Madison 5 - SD's Kennedy Miller went 4-for-4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored to help keep the Knights ahead. Alexis Dittmer added 2 hits for 2 RBI and a run. Graci Cornett limited Madison to 5 hits and no walks to get the win. South Dearborn (18-8) will meet Franklin County (24-5) in the sectional championship game on Friday, May 25 at 6:00 p.m.
IHSAA 2A Sectional 45 at Milan – Championship
Milan 4, Southwestern 1 – Lexi Wert shut down Southwestern in a 7-inning one-hitter to help Milan to its third straight sectional title. Wert, who was named the sectional MVP, struck out 9 batters and allowed only one walk with no earned runs. Milan’s Courtney Bruns, Tuttle, and Taryn Cline each had an RBI.
