East Central's boys and girls teams were crowned team champs
Will Kemper, Callie Bentley, and Brayden Combs were among the record breakers last week.
(St. Leon, Ind.) – Record-breaking performances were abounded at IHSAA Track & Field Sectional Round.
Four individuals and one relay team etched their names in history at Sectional 24 at East Central High School last week.
East Central junior Will Kemper is the new Sectional 24 record holder in the Discus With a distance of 179’9”, Kemper narrowly broke the previous record of 179’8” that was set by East Central grad and current Purdue University standout Leo Maxwell. Aside from breaking the Discus record, Kemper won the Shot Put with a distance of 51’ 4 ¼.

Lawrenceburg senior Brayden Combs set a new sectional record in the 100 Meters with a time of 11.01. Oldenburg Academy’s Lucas Nare previously set the record in 2011 with a time of 11.04.
There could only be one winner, but three 4x800 relay teams finished with times below the previous record time of 8:19.19.
Milan’s team of Ethan DeHamer, Gabe Riehle, Ayden Potts and Ben Riehle now hold the 4x800 record with a time of 7:54.44.
Batesville and South Dearborn finished the race with times of 8:05.84 and 8:07.17, respectively.
On the girls’ side, East Central sophomore Callie Bentley set a new sectional record in the 1600 Meters. Her time of 5:06.24 topped former Trojan Kristal Studer’s time of 5:08.58 in 2008.
Greensburg Emarie Jackson broke her own record in the Shot Put improving from 43’ 11.25” last season to 50’ 2 14/4”. She did the same in the Discus breaking last year’s record throw of 148’1” with a throw of 156’4”.
