Roell, Redwine & Prater Represent SEI at IHSAA Girls Wrestling State Finals

INDIANAPOLIS - Three local high school wrestling stars are representing southeastern Indiana at the IHSAA Girls Wrestling State Finals. 

The inaugural tournament began earlier this month and culminates today at the Corteva Coliseum at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. 

Milan junior Kayla Roell won her opening contest by fall (1:10) defeating Violeta Gomez-Hilero of Jennings County. Roell, who already has sectional and regional championships under her belt, is two wins away from a state championship after defeating #7 Amelia Mitchell of Munster in the second round. Roell won by fall (2:39). Kayla is one win away from winning a state championship after defeating #3 Zoe Pugh by fall (2:31). She will face #5 Aaliyah McLean in the state finals.

East Central senior Leighna Prater defeated Addison Emberton of Whiteland Community in the first round. Prater won be decision (6-2). Prater moved on to the semifinals, winning by fall (3:55) over #2 Jade Chloe Johnson of Western. Prater lost in the semi-final round of the IHSAA Girls Wrestling State Tourney by fall (3:52) to #1 Aleksandra Bastaic. Prater finished third at 145 lbs with a win over Jasmine Camacho.

In the 130 bracket, Switzerland County junior Klaire Redwine was defeated by #3 Julianne Cantu of Merillville by total fall (15-0). Redwine finishes the season ranked 12th at 130 pounds and with a record of 21-3. 

Each of these ladies are history makers as the first girls wrestling state qualifiers in their respective school histories.
