We recap local high school athletes' performances at the IHSAA Track & Field State Finals.

(Bloomington, Ind.) – There were no southeastern Indiana state champs at the IHSAA Track & Field State Finals held in Bloomington over the weekend, but just competing there is an honor in of itself.
The region was well-represented in both the girls state finals on Friday and the boys finals on Saturday. Both meets were hosted at Indiana University’s Robert C. Haugh Track & Field Complex.
In the girls meet, East Central had several athletes to cheer for. Audrey Griffin placed 11th in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 45.28 seconds. The EC 4x400 meter relay team of Eva Grimm, Taylor Messmore, Emma Fey, and Abigail Bittner were 11th in the state at 3:57.39 - a new school record. The Trojans’ 4x800 meter relay team of Lily Greiwe, Lauren Greiwe, Fey, and Bittner came in 18th at 9:36.72.
South Dearborn’s Eva Quinlan was 10th in the 300 meter hurdles, just ahead of EC’s Griffin. Quinlan’s time was 45.15.
South Ripley junior Megan Cole placed 23rd in the 3200 meter run at 11:12.59, breaking her own school record in the event.
Franklin County long jumper Ashlan Hill, a sophomore, impressed with a 14th place finish with a distance of 17’ 1.75”.
As for local representation in the boys state finals on Saturday, Lawrenceburg had two athletes in three events. Senior Mason Parris placed 10th in shot put at 54’ 3” on his first throw. Parris was also a state qualifier in the 110 meter hurdles, in which he placed 24th at 15.33 seconds. Tiger teammate Eyan Peelman was 22nd in the discus throw with a distance of 144’ 9”.
Franklin County’s Cody Moore placed 25th in the boys 800 meter run at 2:01.38.
The IHSAA Boys Track & Field Team State Championship was captured by Avon. The girls team title went to Hamilton Southeastern.
