80 Year Sentence Ordered For Child Molester

By Mike Perleberg (Versailles, Ind.) - An Aurora man has been sentenced to a long prison term following his conviction for child molesting in Ripley County. Carl Gleason, 55, was convicted during a February jury trial of two counts of Child Molesting (Class A felony) and single counts of Sexual Misconduct with a Minor (Class B felony), Sexual Misconduct with a Minor (Class C felony), and Vicarious Sexual Gratification (Class C felony).  On March 17, Ripley Circuit Court Judge Carl Taul sentenced Gleason to 40 years on both of the molesting charges, to be served consecutively for a total prison term of 80 years. Running concurrently with those sentences are 13 years for one misconduct charge, five years on the other misconduct charge, and eight years on the gratification charge. Gleason was given credit for 222 days served in jail before sentencing. According to the Indiana Department of Corrections, Gleason's earliest possible release date is in 2053. A March 31 court filing indicated Gleason is filing an appeal. The crimes happened in the Versailles area between 2004 and 2008. Prosecutor Ric Hertel previously said that the victims had to testify during the jury trial, causing one of them to break down emotionally after giving her testimony.
