Photo by Doug Pensinger/Getty Images (Aspen, Colo.) - By some twist of fate, Dearborn County native Nick Goepper may get to compete for his third straight Winter X Games gold medal Saturday. Goepper, 20, fell on his second run en route to a ninth place finish in Thursday's elimination round of the men's ski slopestyle event in Aspen, Colorado. Only the top eight finishers move on to the medal round. But word came Saturday morning that Goepper - a bronze medalist at the Sochi Winter Olympics last year - could get to ski for a medal on Saturday after all. One of the other top-eight skiers is not able to go due to injury, Goepper's mother, Linda, tells Eagle 99.3. A tweet from Shade Global, an athlete representation and sports marketing firm of which the skier is a client, supported that.
We are thrilled to announce that @NickGoepper will be competing in @XGames Slopestyle finals on tomorrow! Good luck Nick! #XgamesAspen

The Winter X Games men's ski slopestyle comeptition will air at 1:00 p.m. Saturday on ABC. After failing to ensure his place in the medal round during Thursday's eliminators, Goepper tweeted:Ate a slice of humble pie today at @xgames but at least I get to hang with my boys @jeremybloom11… http://t.co/SFOPp64JH7
