More Prison Time For Man Who Threatened Dillsboro Cops

(Undated) – Another six months have been added to the prison sentence for a man who harassed employees of a pharmacy and threatened police in Dillsboro. Billy Luke was sentenced to 10 years in prison by a Dearborn County judge in 2014 following a jury trial in which he was convicted of one count of Stalking (class C felony) and eight counts of Criminal Mischief (class A misdemeanor). The judge commented that Luke had conducted a “disturbing campaign of terror for years.” Following a conviction for Public Indecency because he exposed himself to female employees of Deville’s Dillsboro Pharmacy, Luke repeatedly harassed and intimidated the employees of the pharmacy located just across a small alleyway from his home. While in jail, he wrote a letter threatening to “put a .308 through” the bullet-proof vest of Dillsboro Chief of Police Ryan Brandt. In February, the Indiana Court of Appeals vacated part of Luke’s conviction – specifically, a conviction of a stalking charge. The affect was about four years being taken off his time behind bars. The 30-year-old was charged in May with a new count of Intimidation (class D felony) relating to threats made in a 2014 letter against the Dillsboro Police Department. In that letter, he claimed “I’m going to remedy the corrupt police in Dillsboro by all means necessary” and “Ryan Brandt is not safe.” Luke pleaded guilty to the intimidation charge and was sentenced on July 25. Dearborn Superior Court II Judge Jonathan Cleary ordered him to serve an additional 180 days in prison. The new sentence will be served consecutive to Luke’s 2014 sentence. According to the Indiana Department of Corrections, Luke’s new earliest possible release date is December 18, 2017. Luke’s transgressions have included shooting marbles through the windows of the drug store and the Dillsboro Police Department, attempting to convince an ex-inmate at the county jail to further harass a pharmacy employee by placing a condom full of used ammunition on their home doorstep, and writing the letter threatening the local police. During his 2014 sentencing, a judge found him in contempt of court for writing “Luke – Dillsboro’s Finest 1541” - a reference to Brandt's badge number - on his jail jumpsuit.
